According to some rumors, Sarah Palin wanted to ban many books in the library in her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. This article proves this rumor is true. Palin started discussions about the possibility of getting certain books removed from the library. Such lovable classics on her antibook list include: a Clockwork Orange, Harry Potter, the Canturbery tales, the Catcher in the rye…etc not one of which is has read. She did in fact try to get rid of these books in all of alaska. It is very hard now to find a copy of Harry Potter anywhere in Alaska. In one of her earlier speeches, she claimed that she wanted to put “boundaries” and “limits” on the first ammendment. Palin claimed, “People in our great country need to realize that words are hurtful, gee golly, and harmful ideas like those found in Harry Potter can corrupt the wonderful youth of the nation.” Now, I understand Palin is not Hitler, but really? How can she expect to be Vice President if she is bashing the Bill of Rights?!!! We live in a phenomenal country, one where anyone can express any idea. Palin should stop worrying about the youth being turned into wizards by reading Harry Potter, and more worried about the economy or real issues.

More Frustration with the Media
I hate how I cannot sit down to watch my favorite TV show, go to a concert, or practically do anything without hearing some disrespect or criticism of a political party or candidate. I hear accusations and hatred at school, home, on the radio, almost everywhere and the media does everything it can to encourage and increase this negativity and bashing. Today i was watching the VMA (video music awards hosted by MTV), and the host, a British comedian, was extremely biased against the Republican party. First he made a sexual joke towards Palin and then accused her and the entire Republican party of forcing her daughter’s boyfriend to come to the Republican National Convention. He continued to state that kids should have safe sex because and only so that they don’t have to become Republicans. I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I do not understand why this man, and all other comedians, are allowed to say extremely offense “jokes”, and everyone thinks it is funny. And what is even worse is that his host Russell Brand isn’t even American, he’s British. What gives him the authority or credibility to make judgements about America and Americans? and What if these “disses”/critiques were said about you? Celebrities and other public figures are constantly ridiculed and judged but recently the presidential candidates and their staff have been highlighted. And i believe it is turning into a blood bath with no one able to say anything nice, positive, or respectful. Imagine being told that you look pregnant because you gained 2 pounds. Its not only outrageous but flat out disgusting. What is our world coming to? It seems as though every year that goes by we, citizens of the US and the media, are becoming more judgmental and unfair. I know that is a presidential year and voting for the President is a big deal but there is no need for the hatred. I went to the Maroon 5 and Counting Crows last night (it was amazing) and i just can’t say how much i appreciate what Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz said. He spoke for 2 minutes about the importance for everyone, especially the young to vote this year. He spoke of how special and unique and GREAT America is because as citizens we are allowed to elect who we want as President, we elect our government. He spoke no hatred of Obama, McCain, or America, but encouraged, begged, pleaded that everyone go out and vote for whoever they please. Why can’t everyone be respectful towards one another? Will the media ever be able to stop? Will Americans always be sucked in by the outrageous judging and perfection-standards the media has?
