TV is obsolete

Many times when I am watching TV, I end up getting fed up.  It seems like there are more and more commercials every time I turn it on.  I get tired of watching five minutes of my favorite show and then having it interrupted by five minutes of commercials.  Some commercials I am ok with.  I’m not saying that I dislike all commercials.  Some commercials are pretty funny; however, they are played so much that I even get tired of these.  Thankfully, there is a new way to avoid this problem: the Internet.  It is now easier than ever to watch TV shows on the Internet.  Sites such as TV Links play reruns of all your favorite TV shows.  Even IMDB is showing TV shows now.  Or I could go to the CW website to watch my favorite episode of Gossip Girl.  The best part of all of this is that there are almost not commercials to suffer through.  So with all of these options for watching TV online practically commercial free, why would anyone want to suffer through commercials on actual TV.  Unless TV does something to keep up, I think that it will soon become obsolete.

Taco Bell Commercial

A while ago in class, we began discussing the fact that the media is running out of new ideas. People are simply copying old ideas that have already been used a million times. I recently noticed another example of this. I was watching the TV the other day and the commercial for Taco Bell’s new Volcano Taco. After a watching a couple seconds of the commercial, I felt like I had seen this exact same commercial a million times. Any time a fast-food chain comes out with a new, hot meal, they make the same generic commercial: someone eats the product, they start to smoke, fire comes out of their mouth, and they grab a drink. It gets really annoying watching the TV and seeing the same thing over and over again. This whole thing reminded me of the conversation we had about how everything is just being repeated and there are no new ideas and I realized how true it really is.
